Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – 07 July, 2025 – The Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), the entity spearheading Abu Dhabi’s research and development ecosystem, took part in the 13th BRICS Science, Technology & Innovation Ministerial Meeting, held in Brasília, Brazil.
The event convened ministers and senior officials from BRICS nations and invited partners to explore avenues for multilateral scientific collaboration, highlighting the UAE’s growing commitment to strategic global partnerships.
This year’s meeting coincided with the 10th anniversary of the BRICS Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific and Technological Cooperation. Over the past decade, this collaboration has resulted in the formation of thematic working groups, youth science forums, innovation awards, and six joint research calls—mobilizing hundreds of scientists and decision-makers from across the participating countries.
The ministers also welcomed Indonesia as the newest BRICS member, along with a wave of partner countries including Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. The UAE joined the group in 2024, reinforcing its strategic vision of deepening global diplomatic ties.
During its intervention, ATRC highlighted the breadth of this year’s agenda, which covered vital topics such as disaster preparedness, renewable energy, and biomedical innovation. It also welcomed the inclusion of humanities and social sciences in a newly launched collaborative stream among BRICS members.
The Council commended Brazil for hosting the dialogue and lauded the inclusive nature of the discussions, particularly amid the forum’s expanding membership.
The meeting also introduced proposals to strengthen scientific connectivity, including pilot projects for knowledge exchange and joint development of research infrastructure concepts, underscoring the shared commitment to deeper international collaboration.
ATRC extended its gratitude to the Government of Brazil for its warm hospitality and congratulated India on its upcoming chairmanship of the next ministerial cycle.
As the Abu Dhabi’s R&D enabler, ATRC remains actively engaged in international platforms that elevate the country’s scientific stature—driven by the belief that science and technology are key enablers of sustainable development.
